If 2012’s Oscar-nominated Movie Posters Told The Truth

Truth

Last one: “WUH?” would have been SO MUCH MORE CORRECT THAN “THE TREE OF LIFE”.

“”Far more of Michael Fassbender’s penis than I would like to see”

Also, My Lovely Horse from Father Ted!

I don’t like this expression ‘First World problems.’ It is false and it is condescending. Yes, Nigerians struggle with floods or infant mortality. But these same Nigerians also deal with mundane and seemingly luxurious hassles. Connectivity issues on your BlackBerry, cost of car repair, how to sync your iPad, what brand of noodles to buy: Third World problems. All the silly stuff of life doesn’t …disappear just because you’re black and live in a poorer country. People in the richer nations need a more robust sense of the lives being lived in the darker nations. Here’s a First World problem: the inability to see that others are as fully complex and as keen on technology and pleasure as you are.

This combined with reading Open City last year has cemented by fierce, unapologetic love for Teju Cole.

- I was never able to put to words why I hate that phrase but this accurately describes my feelings.

roller derby girl breastfeeding  (click here to read more)

The feminist campaign to allow women the full freedom to breastfeed is about all of us. It is not really about the choices of individual mothers and their babies. It is about women being considered as important..  as fucking normal as men. We are all made stronger when a woman can breastfeed, in public, as a member of her community, while getting shit done.  Because when that happens it says that women belong, it says that women’s bodies belong, it says that women are here. (ned hepburn)

Driving in Dublin in 1976

“My dad and his friend filmed themselves driving around Dublin City Centre on 4th of September 1976. They drove down Grafton Street [now pedestrianised] and up by Dame Street by the Central Bank (still being built) then down past Trinity College and up to the top of O’Connell Street. Check out the flares and 1970s cars.”
